About Us

Where We Have Come From...

Baptist Action, as a collection of ministries, came out of the heart of the gospel calling to care for those most vulnerable and broken in our society. From aged care to work with children unable to live with family, our history is one of self sacrificial service to those in need.

IOSIS has come out of this tradition and brings together the work done around families and children which had developed up to that point in 2006. From the beginnings of an orphanage begun in the late 1800’s the work has developed to include:

  • Foster Care for over 20 children at one time, including the Hutt Rd home in Manurewa
  • Counselling Centre, working with children and families particularly around domestic violence issues
  • Supervised visitation centre
  • Social Work
  • Parent Support, providing practical short term help for families
  • Merivale Whanau Development Centre, a residential home for woman and children
  • Awhimai, a stable community environment for families
  • Budgeting Service
  • and 6 Opportunity Shops across Auckland, with entire proceeds supporting our work

Our unique contribution is that we incorporate a variety of professional and non-professional disciplines which can be integrated around the needs of families. These are practices in a culture of faith, with staff who are enthusiastic about maintaining the practices of prayer and worship, and creating opportunity for the clients to come to know Jesus as forgiver and leader.

We now operate as a multi-disciplinary, multicultural, community service provider. With a heart to serve, we are constantly striving to meet the needs of people in our community.
