Iosis Strengthening Families service to close
Posted on August 25, 2016 by Iosis
Iosis will cease to provide the Strengthening Families service in Manurewa at the beginning of September 2016.
Strengthening Families is designed for situations where more than one community support organisation or government service is required to help a family meet its needs.
A Strengthening Families coordinator brings together all the relevant parties to discuss with the family their goals. They then agree on what each service will do to assist the family. It saves people having to visit each agency independently and so repeat their story multiple times. Collaboration between services also streamlines response.
“Iosis has been proud to be involved with Strengthening Families. We have seen many families benefit from it,” says Iosis CEO, Tunumafono Tracey-Leigh Peters.
“However, in areas that have a Children’s Team, and Counties-Manukau is one of those, the Government has re-prioritised its funding to support Children’s Teams instead. Therefore, funding for Strengthening Families in our community has ceased.
“Our staff are already actively engaged in the Counties Manukau Children’s Team as Lead Professionals and Children’s Action Network members. So we are still working collaboratively with other organisations in the Manurewa and Papakura areas, to bring about the best outcomes for children and families.”
