Reuben & Sonya

Posted on June 26, 2017 by Iosis

Reuben & Sonya - From strife to strengthWhen Reuben’s wife Sonya told him he needed help with anger management, he dismissed it. But things at home deteriorated. Child, Youth and Family and the Police got involved, and a constable suggested the couple contact Iosis for help.

Reuben met regularly with an Iosis Men’s Development facilitator, and Sonya with a counsellor. Sonya completed a Parenting Toolbox course too. Reuben had a breakthrough when he realised it was a situation from his past that was the real root of his deep-seated anger, not his current situation. With their relationship beginning to heal, but knowing they still needed help with communication, the couple returned to Iosis for the Family Resilience Programme.

“If it wasn’t for coming here to Iosis, I wouldn’t have discovered so many things I had been closing off,” says Reuben. “As a result of closing them off, I became more like a half person. And a half person cannot handle the pressure of life.”
