Eta

Eta: From exhausted to empoweredEta was feeling overwhelmed. Her five lively sons were all under six years of age. Attending to their needs gave her little quiet time to think, or to finish housework uninterrupted. The family was also struggling financially. Sometimes their groceries barely lasted the week.

An Iosis Parent Support worker recognised the stress Eta was under. She helped Eta to enrol the second youngest boy in kindergarten. She also explained how to plan meals, and how to use simple techniques like chore charts and ‘time-out’ to encourage children’s positive behaviour.

With one child at school and three others now in early childhood education, Eta has a few hours each week to get things done around the home and to unwind a bit. This makes concentration and decision-making easier. She has found menu planning saves them money and gives them greater food security. And the safe parenting methods she now is using have made for a more harmonious household.
