“I’m in a much better place.”
Jess* was happily pregnant and looking forward to the birth of her baby, only to find that the baby had died. She had a prolonged miscarriage and says it was extremely traumatic – once the baby had died, she had to wait three weeks until she could deliver. She found the treatment at the hospital, particularly by one doctor, very cold and clinical – and she was quickly discharged to go home.
Jess says it was very hard returning home and to work as people were asking how she was, but not knowing what she’d been through. She started to feel very anxious and to have panic attacks and nightmares. “I was having suicidal thoughts and it was then that I knew I needed help.” She was recommended to Iosis by friends and family.
“Iosis said they would take me straight away. I started one-to-one counselling with Peta, who was great. They were very supportive and encouraging – it felt like a very safe space. It was a real eye opener – even though I had gone there to deal with my miscarriage, it uncovered things from my childhood that I still needed to deal with. I had six sessions and it feels like a weight has been lifted off me.”
“It was so helpful to be able to openly talk to someone in a non-judgemental way. I have acquired amazing tools that help me deal with my anxiety and have made a big difference to my life. Things like redirecting my thinking and projecting where you want to be, rather than where you are at.”
Jess recently finished the counselling and uses the tools often. “I’m in a much better place … thank you Iosis.”
